Our Affiliation
When Crossroads Memorial Church began, three groups of churches gave our church financial support to help us get started.
-
The Triangle Baptist Association- 15 churches that fellowship together to reach North Central Montana with the message of Christ.
-
Montana Southern Baptist Convention- Over 115 churches and missions that fellowship together with the goal of evangelizing Montana.
-
The Southern Baptist Convention- 42,775 churches that cooperate together in a world-wide effort of missions.
These three groups will give our church over $49,000.00 in support to help us get started- with no strings attached.
What is the Southern Baptist Convention?
It is the largest association of Christian churches in America. One out of every 10 churches in America is affiliated with the SBC – 42,775 churches and 16,247,736 members (2002)
It is the most diverse association of churches. SBC churches include many races, nationalities, and ethnic groups. Each Sunday, services are held in over 106 languages and dialects and sign language in the United States (1996). In addition, there are Southern Baptist churches among 98 different Native American groups (1996).
Why not just be an independent church?
We are an independent church! Every SBC church is completely independent. There is no denominational control or hierarchy. Each church is self-governed and determines its own affairs. For example:
- Every SBC church chooses its own pastor.
- Every SBC church owns its own building and assets.
- Every SBC church determines its own programs.
What are the advantages of affiliation with SBC?
It allows us to identify with other Christians around the world who are known for their commitment to the Bible. Southern Baptists have no man-made “creed”. The Bible is our only authority.
It allows our church to participate in the largest missionary organizationi n the world. Through the SBC “Cooperative Programs” we help support 5,607 foreign missions in 153 countries around the world (July 2003) and 5,154 home missionaries (2002).
